Finding decent free applications through Apple’s app store can sometimes be a daunting task. The applications keep piling up and Apple has yet redesign the app store to make it a more efficient process. Many times I have found myself searching for applications by name and still did not retrieve the results I was looking for.

With this in mind I decided to hunt down some free Twitter Iphone Apps and test them out for this post.

NatsuLion: This is a fairly decent iPhone Twitter application. It doesn’t have a lot to offer, beyond the basics basics. The design is simple and to the point which allows you to quickly switch from your timeline, your reply’s, favorites and direct messages. After testing it for a few days, I did notice that the timeline hangs a bit when you attempt to refresh it too quickly.

Just like many social networking websites, the iPhone can help you stay connected with family, friends, and colleagues whether you’re near or far. The best way to use your SMS system with Twitter is to register your phone number on the social platform then just send whatever message you want anytime, anywhere!

Since you have access to the Internet with the iPhone, you can also visit the Twitter mobile website to update your followers with any news or comments. This is quite easy and takes no time at all. Simply access your mobile browser and head to m.twitter.com/ which is a special URL to be used on a mobile phone. From there, log into your account and tweet away! You can do this while you wait in line, sit in class, or on your lunch break. The Twitter mobile website allows you to do all the same things that you’d do right from your computer.

Emailing Twitter Updates

Did you know that you can use Twitter through email on the iPhone? Well, you can. If you don’t have the time to log into the Twitter site or simply don’t want to use the SMS system, you can just send an update via email. All you have to do is register with TwitterMail.com and provide your Twitter details. You’ll be given a Twitter email address to which you send your tweets. Once you’ve set this up, your tweets will be instant.

iPhone Twitter Clients (highly recommended)

If none of the above ways of using Twitter on your iPhone work for you, there is another way. You can send tweets through a web-based Twitter client developed for the iPhone. The two most common are TweetDeck and Tweetie2. These are both client optimized applications that allow you to manage your Twitter account from the iPhone. You’ll be able to see all the latest tweets from your followers and contacts, update your status remotely, and view the public timeline over Wi-Fi or AT&T’s Edge network.

Today, there is absolutely no excuse for not staying connected. Even though people are busier than ever, you can stay in touch with your iPhone using Twitter. Using any of the four ways mentioned above will allow you to connect with your friends, coworkers, family, and colleagues instantly and without delay.

Google announced yesterday that is has overhauled the news to cater to iPhone, Android, and Palm Pre users. With this new overhaul comes a user interface that displays more images, news and their sources. Google also promises “you can now reach your favorite sections, discover new ones, find articles and play videos in fewer clicks. If you are an existing Google News reader on desktop, you will find that all of your personalizations are honored in this mobile version too.”

This all comes in 29 different languages with over 70 different versions avaliable.

After testing the new functionality of the mobile version, I was quite impressed how everything was slimmed down and pretty easy to find.

The “Jump To” feature – located in the top right header of each section – appears to be using some internal page links that allows you to quickly find the topic of interest without endless scrolling.

Now all they need to do is integrate a retweet button and users will have the chance to spread the word, at a much more rapid rate.

Although it has a lot of functions that other similar games have, there is one feature that it takes advantage of – you can download things while you are in the application. For example, you can download a new level or galaxy for this game. This application is one that is going to show how the iPhone is going to change the way that we look at games on cell phones.

This is one of the best applications that you are going to find with the iPhone. This application has the ability for an iPhone to talk to devices which belong to third parties. For example, a company called PASCO graphed the air pressure which was exiting a balloon. This can help with measuring and graphing velocities, chemical compositions, and forces.

The new applications are the things that make the iPhone worth buying. The applications are going to save you money and show you what you can do with your iPhone. They are going to help your kids with their science homework and help you find your way in the world. They are taking cell phones where they have never gone before.

100 Million to the Twitter Corp

According to various sources on the net – this past week – Twitter received 100 million in funding to bring the Corporation to a whooping 1 billion dollar value. Investors Insight Venture Partners, T. Rowe Price, Institutional Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Benchmark Capital, and Morgan Stanley initially wished to remain private about the deal until Friday Sep 25, 2009.

Which begs the question, why? Why would anyone invest this type of capital into a business for only 10% stake in a corporation that has yet to implement a solid revenue generating plan? Is there an Initial Public Offer waiting around the corner? Does twitter have an ace up its sleeve? …

Years ago when you were driving someplace, you had no idea of where things were or what other people thought of them. But these days with the above applications from iPhone, you are going to be able to get an idea of where things are and have less of a surprise than you may have in the past.

Over the past year I have been fortunate to realize a lifelong goal. Ever since I discovered the sheer pleasure of connecting with books, I dreamed of becoming a thought-provoking novelist. Having always wondered what it would be like to read my own novel for the first time in paperback, I finally earned the privilege of enjoying the physical proof of High School Asylum. I was inspired and moved to work even harder by the pivotal experience. Stirred by many emotions of satisfaction and gratitude, I wrote about that day I received my proof copies on The Dustus Blog (Twice the Proofs on January 7th). After tearing open the UPS envelope, I marveled at the cover; then read all 366 pages. Smiling for days, I kept thinking, “Wow, my first novel in paperback! Can anything top this?”

Well, let’s all face it…. Times have changed with technology. Killing trees hurts the environment, and most likely the next generation will be more connected and wired than I could ever imagine. That’s why I decided to release High School Asylum on Amazon Kindle.

Reading it electronically, I had an experience that I needed to share. It changed my attitude, career, and caused me to marvel at the reality of keeping one’s entire library inside a single “book.” However, I remained a bit of a skeptic being someone who grew up to relish old books—especially the way they feel, smell, prefaces, conclusions, printed thought upon each page, their typographical design, and interesting cover layouts—I will always love actual printed books.

Admittedly, I was extremely curious about this “Kindle thing.” Then I noticed it growing in popularity according to the Kindle fan page on Facebook. It was then I could not resist and reviewed High School Asylum on the smooth-white device. Honestly, I could not put the Kindle down. Pages and portraits of artists are very clear, and it even read me my own bedtime story through the text-to-speech function. Last time that happened I was five-years old and had to nag my dad to read to me.

Thus I find myself at a crossroads. Paperback (old school) vs. Kindle (the future)? Answer… Both. I am encouraged by the many ways an artist can now share work. As a devoted reader, I buy a book on Kindle first to see if I like it. If so, then I buy the paperback. For me, it’s a balance of time.

There is support in this application for locating veterinarians, storing the multiple veterinarians for each of your pets, and creating the appointments for vets. The pet owners can also enter the detailed information about their animals so they always have it with them.

All Pets Radio

When someone has pets and they are looking for something more than simple notebooks and pet trackers, you can listen to this radio station on your iPhone. This is a station that is broadcasting resources, news, interesting tidbits and tips for any and all kinds of pets. It’s a radio station for people who love their pets.

Relax Alarm Clock

If you are someone who is used to one of your furry companions waking you up and you are going somewhere that you can’t take them with you, this free application will allow you to record your dogs barks or your cat’s meows. The only thing about this application is that you have to have the application running in order to hear the alarm.

There are a lot of pet owners who also have iPhones and who are going to love these applications. Most of them are free, and the applications that aren’t free are worth the small amount of money that they cost. With the different applications that are available on the iPhone for pet owners, they can be sure that their pets are safe, happy, and well cared for wherever they go.

They are going to have the peace of mind knowing that their information is there with them when it is needed in case of an emergency.

With summer being here and the kids home from school, a lot of parents are looking for ways to keep them occupied. This is especially true when you have your kids on a long car trip and they are getting bored. But if you have an iPhone, there are a lot of applications that are especially good for all ages. Peekaboo Barn – This is a great game to help teach your toddler how to recognize animals by the sounds that they are making. The game has the child guessing which of the animals is behind a door based only on the sound that they are hearing.

Balloonanimals – This application is one that is a favorite with younger children. The child blows into the microphone on the iPhone to make the balloon inflate and then shake the phone to get the animal assembled. Once the balloon animal is complete, the child can interact with it, petting the animal and making the animal do tricks.

Along with first aid videos, it gives you the option to make profiles on friends and family and it comes with only the most updated information from the AHA.

Emergency Radio
Almost anyone knows what it’s like to lose power and not have access to the latest information and news. With this application on your iPhone, you are going to have access to all of the emergency frequencies on the radio, along with the emergency and police departments across the country. This is an application that anyone can afford, since it is only $.99. It is going to be money well spent.

Pet First Aid
For anyone who has a cat or a dog in their house, they know how things can happen to them as easily as they can happen to their spouse or children. This is a must have application for anyone who has a beloved pet, and it’s one that may just save your pet’s life.

These are five applications for the iPhone that may make a difference in the lives of people around you. Even if you never have to use any of them, its reassuring to know that you have something that can assist in times or emergencies.

Having worked in all aspects of the web design and development life cycle over the past several years, I find having fast, easy to use iPhone apps to be a real time saver.

Whether you are a web designer, developer, beginner or all around Web Guru, at some point you may find the need to grab a quick reference, check the status of a remote server and/or figure out a seemingly complex Regular Expression. Well there are some apps for that. Below are the top 10 iPhone applications that I have personally worked with and find especially useful to get through those “I need it now”, fast paced days.

1. HTML Cheat Sheet – A great little application that gives you a thorough listing of HTML tags, events, ISO Character Sets, Math Symbols, URL Encoding, HTTP Status message and much, much more.
   
   

   
   

2. HEX RGB Colors Guide – A simple but effective iPhone app, this program features a large listing of web colors in both RGB values and HEX color codes.
   
   

   
   

3. CSS Cheat Sheet – Similar to the HTML Cheatsheet, the CSS CheatSheet gives you a large listing of CSS properties, selectors , values, pseudo classes and more. What’s even more useful about this app is that the authors break down each entry with a short description, small example and values where applicable.
   
   

   
   

4. Regexen- if you find yourself working with regex expressions from time to time this app becomes a real life saver. Regexen gives you the ability to look up expression syntax in both Perl and POSIX formats. As well as let you run and test your expressions to see if they are correct or not. If you find an expression to be rather useful this iPhone app allows you to add it to a favorites list where you can reference it at a later time.
   
   

   
   

5. PHP Ref- A great PHP reference to quickly find information on PHP functions. This app features over 5000 functions to search from and comes with a handy built in search feature. It should be noted that this app needs access to the web to work properly and some users may find the text a little too small to read. 6. JavaScript Cheat Sheet – This application is also simple and to the point and offers a large amount of information on the JavaScript language. 7. TouchTerm SSH- this application is a nice little SSH terminal that allows you to remotely access and manipulate your server(s). TouchTerm uses the OpenSSH standard and works on both EDGE/3G and Wifi connections.
   
   

   
   

8. AS3 API Reference – Whether you need a quick reference for Adobe Flex 3.2, Adobe Air 1.5 or Flash Player 10, this application has you covered. The AS3 API Reference is easy to use and offers a complete documentation for all Action Script 3 Classes.
   
   
   

   
   

9. MySQL Cheat Sheet – offers a wealth of useful information for the beginner as well as the seasoned veteran. MySQL Cheat Sheet gives a nice listing of Command Line Tools, Numeric Data Types, String Data Types, Operators, functions, literals, common commands and much, much more. 10. JQuery Cheat Sheet- Another amazing cheat sheet brought to you from the guys at Concentric Sky. It is no surprise to most of you that the iPhone is one of the hottest smart phones on the market today. In a recent article from Twice, the total number of iPhone activations “surged” to over 2.4 million in AT&Ts second quarter this year. But what effect will this have on mobile banking if any?

According to Brad Strothkamp of Forrester Research, we will see the day where mobile banking will be changed by the iPhone for a few reasons.

One of which is the recent spike of market shares for the iPhone- that has risen from “5.3%” to “10.8%”. This is no doubt largely due to the latest release of Apple’s 3GS iPhone. I predict this rate of increase will continue to flow each year, if Apple continues to Wow the market with bigger and better versions of the iPhone at lower costs.

Another comes from the increasing amount of mobile bankers that are using the iPhone and/or Ipod touch to do their banking. Strothkamp writes that the Bank of American recently reported in June that of their 2.7 million customers- 40% of them use an iphone or ipod touch to complete some form of banking. That is approximately 28% higher than the company reported in February of 2009.

Innovation tops the last rational for this predication. Banks such as USAA that have been on the forefront of implementing new methods will make it even easier to do more transactions from the smartphone. They plan to allow their members to deposit checks soon via the iPhone camera. Being a USAA member for the past 11 years, I am very excited to meet this change.

The above information provided by Srothkamp lays the ground work to make the iPhone the choice among mobile bankers in the near future. This with a combination of mobile banking incentives and decreased costs of the iPhone will certainly push this idea into fruition a lot sooner than later.

There are so many great iPhone apps out there that sometimes you may have a hard time choosing which is right for you. Well if you have kids- or a family for that matter- then the POM Offender Locator is by far the best iPhone app on the market for you.

I stumbled upon this gem while doing my daily iPhone “top 25” search via the app store. I bought it expecting not to see much on around my “local yokel” area. Man, was I wrong.

Shortly after firing up the application I was faced with a lengthy terms of agreement to accept before moving on to the location feature. Fueled by the desire to locate these freaks, I quickly scrolled through and accepted. Next, I touched the “Use Location Button” and my GPS position was quickly gathered and ready to use by the app. I hit the next button and was completely shocked to see how many sex offenders are in my local area – 51 to be exact.

What’s even better is that when you drilldown on each of the scumbags listed, their picture is shown along with the charges they were convicted of. Click on the map button in the upper right corner and you are presented with a Bing map showing their location.

Doing a quick check online I was able to find out more from the creators of POM Offender Locator and pulled this from there site.

Whether you are new to the world of search engine optimization or a seasoned pro, you will find the need to get a quick glimpse of some basic SEO metrics from time to time. If you have an iPhone, there are a couple of apps for you.

While the tools presented here are not advised to base your entire SEO business off of; you will find them practical to utilize when talking to a client, in a meeting or any other situation where find yourself out of your computer’s reach.

SEO Ranking- A great little iPhone app to quickly find your SERP based off any given keyword. This app uses Google’s AJAX API, which – at the time of this writing -allows for unlimited SERP calls. SEO Ranking also includes a handy line graph to display the results of your keyword rankings over a period of time.

proSEO – This iphone app goes the extra mile, as far as iPhone apps are concerned. proSEO gives you the ability to break down the source code of any page on the net. After adding your URL, this application allows you to view a “Source Code Analysis” which breaks down the source code by meta tags, total tag counts, title tag text and a complete view of the underlying source code.

The next function of the proSEO analysis is dubbed the “Body Text Analysis”. This report gives you a stop word ratio percent, a total word count with stop words and outputs a count of how many keyword phrases are present by length of phrase.
Two other breakdowns allow you to view the anchors and link text of a page as well as the image and alt tags presented.
It should be noted that this iPhone app is a little pricey at just under 10 bucks, but I have found the fast decomposition and grouping of reports to be well worth the added cost.

AnalyticsApp.com – Out of the handful of available web analytics reports found in the iPhone app store, this app is the closest thing to logging into your Google Analytics account. It offers over 45 different reports, the ability to track multiple domains, custom date views, and the ability to inspect your adWord’s campaign traffic.

Pokeseo- simple but effective this iphone app quickly checks page rank based off of Google’s PageRank algorithm. In addition this iPhone App displays the number of backlinks for any given domain or URL from four major search engines AOL, Google, MSN Live (BING) and Yahoo.

SEM- This free iPhone app allows you to do a multitude of calculations based off of common search engine marketing equations. Great for anyone who needs a quick calculation based off of CPM, CPA, CPC, CTR and more.

While these iphone apps will not completely change how you conduct your SEO related activities. It is good to know that there are some iPhones apps out there that can help you to quickly check: SERPs’ ,backlink counts, traffic analytics and more. Personally I would like to see one app that can do all the above mentioned checks, but until then, it is entertaining to know there are a handful that can do the job nicely.
