Thank you for mentioning Doctors Without Borders. The list is primarily based on the history of the organizations, the percent of donations going to help the cause and/or the speed at which many came to aid Haiti. You are absolutely correct about the Salvation Army, but it should be noted that they have a long track record of success and they continue to receive excellent ratings by The American Institute of Philanthropy.

Is this based on ratings? Because The Salvation Army isn’t ranked on Charity Navigator because it is a religious organization and isn’t required to disclose full financial information.

Doctors Without Borders is another charity that is already on the ground and is reliable.
