iPhone Apps to Help You Save on Gas

Let’s face it; today’s economy is unstable, stress-inducing, and scary. So, saving a little money here and there is always a welcome opportunity. One of the commodities that we all seem to be spending most of our money on these days is gas, and while we try to go green like everyone else, sometimes you just gotta fill up that tank.

Of course there are plenty of ways that you can save on gas – you’ve probably learned them from the news, reading online, and other sources. Just avoid traffic, so don’t drive at rush hour. Keep your car well maintained. Try to carpool with your coworkers. These are all great ideas, but did you know that there are actually iPhone applications that can help you save on gas?

There is a wide selection of applications that you can download for your iPhone that will help you save at the pump. In fact, some of these apps will even help you save energy and time as well. Here are some of the best (and coolest) options when it comes to gas-saving iPhone apps. They’ll help you find not only the cheapest gas but also determine how fuel efficient your car actually is.

iGasUp

One way to save a little money on gas is to find it cheap and make it last. iGas is an iPhone application that helps you find cheap gas stations near you. With this app you won’t have to drive from gas station to gas station (wasting time, gas, and money) looking for the best deal. Gone are the days wasting gas to find cheap gas. When you use iGas, you’ll see the 10 cheapest gas stations near you. If you prefer, you can even enter the zip code of where you’re going to make any drive a little easier on the wallet. This app is well worth it at $2.99.

GasBag

This free iPhone app is great for finding cheap gas stations in your area. GasBag, like iGas, locates the closest gas stations and lists their prices. In addition to finding the cheapest gas stations near you, you can also track your gas mileage and expenses to help keep you on track. There is also a logbook that calculates your miles per gallon, price per mile, and price per gallon to see exactly what you’re spending your money on. The downside to this free app is that it doesn’t cover all areas, so there is a limitation.

GasHog

Weighing in at $0.99, GasHog helps you monitor your car’s fuel efficiency. It won’t locate the cheapest gas stations in your area but will help you understand how the car is doing by taking the math out of the equation. You simply enter the mileage of your vehicle each time you refill the tank and it tells you how well your car is doing in the efficiency department. This app is a great way to determine when you might need to get a tune up or change your driving habits.
