It’s all in Your Profile – Why a good Twitter Profile is so important for your business.

It’s all in Your Profile – Why a good Twitter Profile is so important for your business.

Why is your Twitter profile so important? First and foremost, that is where people are going to look to find out more about you, and whether you are worth following. Some people would even go so far as to say it doesn’t matter what you tweet about so long as your profile is good. I can’t say I entirely agree with that, but a strong profile can’t be overlooked.

For whatever reason people are looking at you on Twitter they are going to go to your profile page to discover more, but they probably won’t stay there long. The profile page is important as if you are a frequent twitterer it may take pages of tweets for a person to really find out much about you. You may have been tweeting about the latest murder in your home town, or the price of milk.

Twitter doesn’t allow a lot of room on your profile so need to pack in as much as you can. Obviously it makes a difference as to your reasons for having a Twitter account. Think carefully about the overall image you want to show (not the physical photo).

The Photo:

Try to make it interesting. If you are using a real name for your account it is probably best to have an actual photo of you (or at least a real person). Cartoon type images can be interesting too but only if they really make a clear statement about you. There are a few ideas you could use to enhance your Twitter photo space:
Take a photo of yourself in a Tee shirt that has a message on it.
You can also have a real picture of yourself turned into a cartoon.
If you have some basic skills in Photoshop you could add text to your photo.

The 160 characters:

It is not a lot of room, so as with the 140 character tweets you need to be succinct. Give as much detail as you can to include hobbies, interests and your niche if applicable. If you are using your Twitter account for marketing purposes think of this area in terms of SEO. Get those keywords in there.

Make sure to include an URL:

This probably goes without saying, but that URL is a vital part of your profile. Think about where you are leading your visitors – hopefully soon to be followers.

Custom background:

This is an optional extra that you can utilize to pack even more information and images into your Twitter profile page. You can either make your own, or you can have one made very cheaply.

Once you have your profile page just the way you want it that is where you want to drive your traffic. You have the perfect Twitter page set up and that is what you want people to see. Yes, it does still matter what you tweet about, and how you tweet but your profile really says it all.
