Having worked in all aspects of the web design and development life cycle over the past several years, I find having fast, easy to use iPhone apps to be a real time saver.
Whether you are a web designer, developer, beginner or all around Web Guru, at some point you may find the need to grab a quick reference, check the status of a remote server and/or figure out a seemingly complex Regular Expression. Well there are some apps for that. Below are the top 10 iPhone applications that I have personally worked with and find especially useful to get through those “I need it now”, fast paced days.
- HTML Cheat Sheet – A great little application that gives you a thorough listing of HTML tags, events, ISO Character Sets, Math Symbols, URL Encoding, HTTP Status message and much, much more.
- HEX RGB Colors Guide – A simple but effective iPhone app, this program features a large listing of web colors in both RGB values and HEX color codes.
- CSS Cheat Sheet – Similar to the HTML Cheatsheet, the CSS CheatSheet gives you a large listing of CSS properties, selectors , values, pseudo classes and more. What’s even more useful about this app is that the authors break down each entry with a short description, small example and values where applicable.
- Regexen- if you find yourself working with regex expressions from time to time this app becomes a real life saver. Regexen gives you the ability to look up expression syntax in both Perl and POSIX formats. As well as let you run and test your expressions to see if they are correct or not. If you find an expression to be rather useful this iPhone app allows you to add it to a favorites list where you can reference it at a later time.
- PHP Ref- A great PHP reference to quickly find information on PHP functions. This app features over 5000 functions to search from and comes with a handy built in search feature. It should be noted that this app needs access to the web to work properly and some users may find the text a little too small to read. So far this is the best PHP reference app that I have found in the app store.
- JavaScript Cheat Sheet – This application is also simple and to the point and offers a large amount of information on the JavaScript language. Whether you need to quickly look up information on a particular Javascript object or find proper syntax , the JS CheatSheet can be a real time saver.
- TouchTerm SSH- this application is a nice little SSH terminal that allows you to remotely access and manipulate your server(s). TouchTerm uses the OpenSSH standard and works on both EDGE/3G and Wifi connections.
- AS3 API Reference – Whether you need a quick reference for Adobe Flex 3.2, Adobe Air 1.5 or Flash Player 10, this application has you covered. The AS3 API Reference is easy to use and offers a complete documentation for all Action Script 3 Classes.
- MySQL Cheat Sheet – offers a wealth of useful information for the beginner as well as the seasoned veteran. MySQL Cheat Sheet gives a nice listing of Command Line Tools, Numeric Data Types, String Data Types, Operators, functions, literals, common commands and much, much more. If you find yourself spending too many hours sifting through the MySQL documentation you may want to check out this iPhone app.
- JQuery Cheat Sheet- Another amazing cheat sheet brought to you from the guys at Concentric Sky. Not only does this iPhone app reference the complete JQuery 1.3.2 & 1.2.6 Framework it also references several of the popular JQuery plugins and allows you to write and test your code inside the application’s sandbox.

What a useful list. I use a couple of the cheat sheets already, but the rest were new to me. Thanks!!
Great post man looking forward to trying some of these apps out since I use jquery alot I will be able to test stuff before going live with it. that is always a pain
I guess so but if I am developing anything, I am normally at the computer, so I would rather have it there.
I can completely understand that…. I like to use both when I have my machine full of open windows. I also enjoy using the TouchTerm SSH, when I am away from home to check on my servers.
